GovToday presents The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme: Defining the Way Forward Conference and Exhibition, which will be held on 16th March 2010 at Church House, Westminster.
From the 1st April 2010, large public and private sector organisations will be required to take part in The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme, the new regulatory incentive to improve energy efficiency across sectors in the UK.
On the 7th October 2009, the Department for Energy and Climate Change added the final details to this groundbreaking Scheme, which lies at the heart of the Government's commitment to reduce the UK's carbon emissions by 34 per cent by 2020, and 80 per cent by 2050.
"Reducing energy use will save organisations a total of £1 billion and more than 4MtCO2 each year by 2020."
The scheme is designed to raise awareness in large organisations, especially at senior level, and encourages changes in both behaviour and infrastructure, targeting organisations whose annual half hourly metered (HHM) electricity use is at least 6,000 Megawatt hours (MWh) - those that spend £0.5 million a year on electricity.
"There are clear benefits from positive, immediate action to tackle climate change. Investment that takes place in the next few decades will have a profound effect on the climate in the second half of this century and in the next.
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme will help organisations to become more energy efficient, to save significant sums of money on fuel bills, and to show customers, clients and competitors that their organisation is a leader in tackling climate change."
Joan Ruddock MP, Energy and Climate Change Minister. The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme: Defining the Way Forward Conference and Exhibition will provide a forum for detailed discussion of the scheme and enable large organisations to develop a successful strategic approach to carbon reduction.
An opportunity for Industry and government to exchange knowledge and best practice, this national Conference will bring together those at the forefront of this agenda to evaluate the legal requirements, technological developments and ultimately the financial rewards - don't miss this opportunity to build on your expertise and rise to the challenges ahead.
